I Can't believe he said

Though at one point it sounds funny, but I don't wish this on my worst enemy. Have you ever have these excuses given to you by your spouse: I didn't want a have sex for your own good. Or I am doing this for your. Or this was better for our relationship. Or I wanted to take it slow. A little back ground this couple haven't had sex in for ever, the wife just ask for a divorce for that very reason and the guy wanted to do this to reconcile with her, he promise he will do better to then excuse himself to avoid sex. I thought it was a joke, like a hoax or something, but I didn't know what to say when I found out it was true, now I feel sorry and it doesn't sound funny anymore.

Have this happened to you or anyone you know, I never heard something like this before until know and I am in shock that the guy had those stones. Is clear he wants the divorce too, but he should not have been so cruel. I feel really sorry. I want to hear your thoughts.
