Will my baby be okay if I don’t buy the Owlet sock monitor?

Question

I have anxiety however not a big budget at the moment. The first few months our baby will be in our room in a bassinet by the bed, so I haven’t purchased a baby monitor yet. We plan to transition her to her crib around 3 months old so I’ll have to have one by then - but I was looking more around the $150 range. I love the idea of the owlet to monitor breathing but it is so expensive. 
I had our first child years ago and I don’t recall there being any of these cool tech things to ease anxiety - so now I’m wondering if I need it? Will baby be okay without it? Everyone I know whos pregnant is buying it to be safe and it’s making me feel almost guilty if I don’t.

I agree with some posters. I feel like it’ll cause more anxiety for me. My sister has one that she offered me, but I feel it’s unnecessary. She said she would stress if she didn’t charge it or something and I don’t need all that. Don’t feel guilty. You guys will be fine.

I had killer anxiety the first couple weeks, like, can’t sleep unless someone’s watching the baby kind of anxiety, and it’s finally starting to die down. I was convinced that I needed one of those monitors, but as time goes by I’m more okay with not having one. I just sleep with him right next to my bed in his bassinet, the sides are mesh so I can see him while I’m laying down. I do admit, I check him like a million times a day to see if he’s still breathing, though. I think you’ll be okay without an owlet. They’re like ridiculously expensive too

My rainbow baby was in the NICU and suffered apnea’s while in the NICU. I would’ve never slept without it.

I never had one for my son. I didn’t have crippling anxiety though. My fiancé was worse than me once we moved him to his crib. He would wake me up every time he rolled on his belly asking me if he’s breathing. I have heard as long as they work correctly, they do give peace of mind. They can also fall off and move and freak you out. If it’s something that will ease your fears, then invest in one. People are sometimes selling them second hand too so you might want to try to find a used one?
