Mirena Experience
Hi! I’ve had the mirena iud for a little over three years now and I thought I’d share my experience up until this point. Maybe it’ll help some people or maybe it’ll help me lol.
I first had it inserted during my period (as suggested by my gyno). I remember bleeding/ spotting for about three weeks maybe even a month. It took a couple months for my body to adjust until I began getting my period at its usual time. I expected that my period would lighten or even vanish but that didn’t happen.
For two years I had a regular cycle, a period every month for 5-7 days. I found that they were much more painful with cramping throughout the cycle. At one point I thought I had fibroids because the cramping was terrible but no, it was just my iud.
Interestingly, approaching my third year with it being inserted, my cycle became irregular. It was late some months and early others. There was spotting in between cycles which scared tf out of me but soon became normal. My period for the past couple of months has lasted anywhere from 7-10 days which is kind of a bummer but at least I’m still getting one. It’s almost as if I have a pseudo-period with light bleeding and spotting for five days, it stops, then starts up again with an actual flow. Let me tell you, this has costed me a lot of cute underwear because I thought my period was over when it was actually just beginning hahah.
Anyway, I thought I’d share how the mirena has affected me because I know it’s very confusing and often stressful. If you’re experiencing something similar or something that seems irregular, I don’t want you to stress. It seems that my body has gone through different phases and yours might be too. Just give it some time.
XO
