When to transition to toddlwe bed?

Hey all so i have a little one due in March. I wanna get your opinion on when i shouod transition my older boy to a toddler bed before littlw brother is born or after? Hes 20 months. And i need tipa of how you keep him in his room at night. Thanks all!

My son is almost 20m and we’ve had him in an open crib since he was 15m. 
Got him a twin mattress that’s been on his floor for like two months. He’s getting the hang of the whole blanket/pillow thing. 
We had our baby girl last month and we’re hoping to use the crib for her. So we’re evicting our son 😂

Is he showing signs of needing switched to a toddler bed? I wouldn’t rush it for the new baby unless u will be using the crib with the newborn.

My son started climbing out of his crib even with the mattress dropped to the floor. So we ended up taking the front off his crib and his mattress is on the ground. There is nothing in his room. (we don't believe toys should be in kids rooms. It gets them excited and they will never sleep. It's scientifically proven) we have the rocking chair and his dresser that's it. We put childproof covers on the handles of the door and the closet door. We have a video monitor in his room so we can see and hear him at all times. It's hard but he gets used to it. We will lay with him for 30-45 minutes until he's almost asleep. Then he is upset when we leave for like 30 seconds and then he goes to bed. This is his new bed we are getting so it's toddler safe and he can't get under it.

My son has been in a twin bed since 15 months, it’s against the wall with a bed rail on the other side so only the bottom is open and it works well he fell out once while he was awake but since then he has had no issues
