I voted no before comprehending what the question was. I never used a fetal Doppler at home as they can stress you out when you can’t find the baby’s heartbeat.

Yes totally normal. I didn’t start hearing mine consistently until 16-17 weeks.

The people not actually answering the question with personal experience are just plain annoying. Yes that happened to me earlier on. Baby is so small and hard to find and moves around so much. No one knows why you choose to use a heartbeat doppler, so no one should be commenting these annoying know it all type comments.

I never used a home Doppler because I know first hand how hard it can be to find a heartbeat when you’re inexperienced using an ultrasound device. Babies move around and it can make finding the heart beat hard to do repeatedly, especially early on in pregnancy. My husband works with children with heart issues and he is adamant that his expectant mothers never use these because of this. He’s been called into work multiple times for false alarms because the mother couldn’t find the heart beat and nothing was wrong. And he once lost had a mother miscarry her child due to this kind of thing (he believes the stress pushed the already high risk pregnancy to just be too much). So I stayed away from the dopplers even though I am good at using ultrasounds, I’m not experienced with an ultrasounds of pregnant women so I didn’t risk it. It’s not worth the stress.

Yes and it’s nerve wracking. We ended up finding the heartbeat but were like ready to rush to the ER.

I found it myself one week and the next week I couldn’t find it. What put me at ease was that I heard the noises from the placenta and realized I had a anterior placenta and that’s probably why I couldn’t find the heartbeat the second time. Doctor confirmed anterior at the next appointment.

Yes often! It wasn't until later in my pregnancy that I found it often but still it could be a task telling the difference between blood flow, my heartbeat, placenta and baby's heartbeat

Yes. If you cannot be calm when you are unable to find baby’s heartbeat then a home Doppler is not for you! Babies are good at hiding.
