Things you wish you knew before having a baby?

I wish I had read about the 4th trimester and baby blues. I wish I would have read about baby sleep patterns and health before having the baby. I read so much about my pregnancy and little about the baby's first weeks. Also, I should have tried to establish napping before the baby came. I can't nap and it would be helpful if I could sleep when he sleeps on occasion.

I’ve always read about mother’s having this deep connection and overwhelming love when their baby is born.  I never had that at first with either one of my kids. I loved them but like I love a friends kid. It took a little time for me to get that deep loving connection.

Postpartum rage/anger!
Never talked about and honestly i felt broken because of it but then was able to finally get some help through counselling and just being patient with myself!

I wish I knew more about breastfeeding and the difficulties surrounding it. It’s amazing just would have been nice to have some heads up on stuff. 
That no matter what you read or advice people give you do what is right for you and your child. Too many different opinions about everything. You figure out what’s right for you.

I wish I would have read about the fourth trimester and cluster feeding. I wish I would have realized from the start that baby may or may not sleep more than 2 hours at a time and that’s OK. The term “I slept like a baby” is bologna. I also wish I would have learned about contact napping so I could “avoid” it because now she’s 8 months old and won’t nap anywhere but on me😅

 Also the struggle of finding yourself. I just feel like a mom all the time.

Breastfeeding and establishing good sleep. Also balancing my physical needs with the baby’s. It’s hard because COVID doesn’t allow family to come help and give the parents any breaks.

How critical it is to build your village beforehand
To deeply discuss your relationship and parenting goals/values/task division before baby arrives
Set up therapy beforehand 
Have way more food frozen/delivered/dropped off by friends and family

Postpartum psychosis. They barely even talk about postpartum depression but postpartum psychosis is a whole other level! & it’s dangerous af!
