My mil always has her granddaughter (SIL daughter) but she never offers to watch our 3 yo son... she doesn’t really communicate with him when we are around her, just looks at him and will laugh if he’s being silly. I don’t know what it is. My husbands grandmother says that “the love is strongest with the first grandchild”, but to me it just doesn’t seem fair. I mean she buys him gifts for holidays, but never offers to watch him..anything.

It upsets my husband to the point he doesn’t really speak to her now. Is it normal for grandmothers to show favoritism between grandchildren? Is that like a common thing
