Summer baby clothes and pjs?

My baby is due Memorial Day in the south -  so it will be sticky, hot, and humid for the first few months of his life (although we do have AC). I see lots of people recommending various swaddles and sleep sacks and footie pjs. Plus have heard newborns should wear hats and mittens. Is the advice still the same for a summer baby? We did buy a Snoo, so will be planning to use the Snoo sleepsacks which seem like just thin cotton, does he need to wear anything else underneath at night?

We had (and will have another this year) an August baby. We’re also in the south and at the time lived in a place with AC but poor circulation of it, so it got hot. It will depend on the temp where baby will sleep, how cool you keep your home, and even vary a little with different babies as they can be hot or cold natured, just like us. The rule of thumb is to dress baby as you would dress in that temperature, though some would say to and an additional thin layer. We used cotton jammies with feet some days, wanrmer days we just used a onesie. You may or may not want to use a thin Muslim swaddle, if you’re swaddling (our two never liked it). I would say, unless you keep your house quite cool, steer clear of sleep sacks and fuzzy jammies during those hot sticky months.
Also, babies are better able to avoid overheating (should they become at risk for that) if their head isn’t  covered. A hat doesn’t allow them to release heat from the tops of their heads when they are too warm, so no hat is best. Mittens are usually used to avoid baby scratching their face with their tiny nails, but they inhibit hand movements and the touching sensory input and can, therefore, hinder development, so best not to use them as well. Just keep nails as short as you can and know that scratches will likely happen, but will heal quickly and the phase will end soon.
