Do you think life would be better without any social media?

I think under 16’s shouldn’t have it tbh. My sisters are obsessed with it and it’s worrying. Random messages from guys, even girls asking for money. Their profiles are private and I don’t think they should have it !!!

Definitely. It gives people insecurities they never knew they had and shows you bodies that aren’t achievable, which can lead to eating disorders. I remember when tons of people on tumblr romanticized pro ana and TONS of girls started starving themselves because of it. They wanted to be able to hook their fingers around their ribs and have their hip bones stick out so much that there’d be a gap when you put on underwear. It was pretty bad. It can also make people feel like they don’t have a good life or make them feel behind in life. And tiktok? Horrible. I’ll admit, there are some funny videos on there, but it’s also incredibly toxic. I remember seeing a video on how to get rid of those lines around your neck and everyone in the comments was saying how they now had a new insecurity and didn’t notice them until they saw that video. So yeah, I think life would be a lot easier without it, especially for young boys and girl who are still growing into their bodies.

I already see what it's doing to my 14 yo niece. She tells me she wishes she was as skinny, as pretty,as this and that as the girls from instagram and tiktok.my boyfriend and I deleted our social media together to focus on our relationship and it has been amazing. I'll keep my kids away from it for as long as I can

I love being able to see what my long distance friends are doing and how their families are growing, but it can be so addictive. Just scrolling through Facebook and YouTube can take away precious time and you don’t realize how long you’ve been looking at your phone. I definitely think it’s good for everyone to set limits and to keep kids away from it for as long as possible.

i’ve had social media since i was 12 (aol and myspace age haha!) i don’t think it caused any issues growing up, i was still a very active and in touch kid. had friends, played sports, got decent grades. instagram came out and i was ALL FOR IT, i posted every single day back when it was more casual. it taught me a lot and let me interact with people outside of my very conservative small town. idk i don’t see an issue with having one 13 years or older 🤷‍♀️, i think it’s important to talk to your children about internet safety and having an open dialogue with them about what they find

Definetly under 16 sounds like a great idea. I honestly wouldn't have any social media if I didn't have kids. I have family all over the US and Canada so that's how I keep them close to the kids.

I've deleted almost everything besides this. Best decision I've made. Facebook was nothing but a highlight reel for most and made me question my life and decisions, looks, etc etc. I've never been happier! My husband also doesnt have any. Any friends we have is through txt/calling and hanging out. My children wont have any social media until like 13-15. And I'm only letting them because they will feel left out if not. But I hate what it does to someone mentally and emotionally.

I mean yes and no , no matter what you do or where you go on social media or not. There’s always people who think they’re better than everyone , or whom you compare yourself to . Who are rude, nice etc .. that’s just the general public . Social media makes it increase because now we can pick on people or whatever more easily or compare ourselves . So what I’m trying to say is self love should always come before anything , and comparing or feeling out down by others will feel a lot less harmful if you do that.

I think it's complicated, there are pros & cons to social media & it just depends on you & how you use it.
I take breaks a lot. It doesn't feel worth my time. But when I don't feel well, or need to learn what's been going on in the world, it helps me not be a complete hermit. It can inspire me, creatively, too. But it feels alienating as well. 
I think young people need to be "bored" in order to do cool stuff. As long as they don't get too addicted, it's fine. 
I'm glad I never used the computer much until I was an adult. I used to just carve soap n paint. Lol
