Hair cut dilemma

Whats the best way to get some style to my long hair without sacrificing braids? I'd like some layers but unsure which ones will make a braid look too sloppy? I have long hair to my chest and will continue to grow it out. I like to put my hair in Dutch or French braids and I sometimes do viking style braids. Just trying to give myself some shape! I found all of thee pictures on pinterest. Im open to other ideas as well
