Tonsillitis HELP!!!

Ughh I went to the doctors yesterday after my 5th day of having tonsillitis first my throat was the only thing that was hurting me the whole time. So she gave me penicillin now today my ears are hurting after she asked me yesterday if my ears were hurting at all and I told her no because they weren’t .. but today it’s starting to hurt, she originally gave me the medicine for (bacterial) can my ears be hurting because it’s a side effect of viral? Also a day after taking this medicine my throat got extremely swollen when waking up and then an hour later it went a little down, is that a sign that it’s working? Also please recommend me some air conditions that I should be breathing because everytime I breath my throat gets so dry and it gets harder to swallow.. so does anyone know how I can help that? Also is it normal to be coughing up mucus, is it normal for tonsillitis to create mucus?
