Discipline
Ok mamas! I have an 18-month old baby girl. When she gets upset over something she can't have she either falls out on the floor or turns red in the face and sounds like she's cussing me up one wall and down the other. She also gets upset when a toy or other item doesn't do what she wants it to or its stuck and she can't free it.
When she's on the floor having a tantrum I leave her there and when she starts her hissy fits in my arms or my mom's we place her on the floor and ignore her until she calms down. She's over it in under a minute, usually 30 seconds.
The day before my friend was watching her for me at my house and needed to wake her from a nap so I could leave town with her. My mom went to help. Baby girl was obviously upset and crying. My friend told my mom if that were her and her dad he would have popped her.
Yesterday she had a doctor's appointment and she did not have a pleasant experience. I could tell on the ride back to the hotel she was close to nap time. My boyfriend and I both had our arms full of stuff to carry upstairs and neither one of us could carry her. She cried, but walked, to the elevator and the room. Three times she sat on the floor on the way up but I coaxed her to keep going. She wasn't on the floor long, just a few seconds, and only just sitting there. We get in the room, she calms down and eats lunch, and my boyfriend said he would have spanked her. He has two boys of his own and said when they did stuff like that he would spank them and even his parents would.
My mom and I are at the same wave length of she's not even two, she's sorting out her feelings/emotions, and why spank her when she's upset and figuring herself and the world out. I don't want to teach her that its not acceptable to cry by spanking her. That's almost the same as if I'm crying and someone comes over and spanks me to make me stop.
Are my mom and I going in the right direction or not? Thanks!
