Twin Complications
I am 19 weeks 1 day with mono/di twins. At 16 weeks we found out the boys had developed Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome and needed surgery. We immediately went to Baltimore (live in NC) to be seen at Johns Hopkins and due to having “placenta everywhere” and anterior placenta position, it was difficult to find an entry point for the surgery so we had to wait for a little bit for me to get bigger and one baby to get even more fluid while one got less. It was so scary. I had the surgery last Tuesday at almost 18 weeks. While at Johns Hopkins I also found out I have Vasa Previa. The boys are doing good after surgery (thank the lord) and slowly leveling out their fluid levels. One baby has a heart regurgitation due to getting too much blood and fluid, and that will take time to fix and may possibly need a balloon after delivery. The other baby has a calcium spot on their heart but we haven’t had our echo and so far doctors are not concerned. The Vasa Previa most likely means I will need to have a C-Section at 32 weeks.
I’m a positive person and have been trying so hard to stay positive through all of this but I am feeling a little defeated and overwhelmed. Yesterday at the doc I also found out the rash on my belly is PUPPP (which I had feared but was hoping it was just hives from surgery with all the sterilization and stuff). Honestly really itchy skin is the least of my concerns but still annoying.
My first was so easy and this time it’s so complicated.
I’m just venting here as I know you multiple moms have been through a lot during pregnancy too. How do you all handle it?
