I live in southeast Florida (Broward) and teach in Dade. North Dade is really nice, but super expensive. I love Broward: grew up here and moved back with my kids when I got divorced. Depending on where you go, you’d have to research schools. I teach in a charter school and my kids are in a really good public school (I love the teachers and principal). (Would’ve put them in my school, but they have friends in the neighborhood that they can hang out with, which I like a lot!)

Honestly, all cities have a good and bad part of town. But Cape Coral is known as one of the safest cities in Florida for a decent cost of living. I would avoid going to the following areas: Brevard, Polk, or Dade County. There are some good cities in those counties, but overall not the best areas. Naples and Marco Island are also good places, but much more expensive. Fort Myers is known as a bad area but that's because they use statistics from the "city" only and there's a lot more to Fort Myers than the actual "city" so you could look around there as well for affordable living. Some Northern cities in Florida are good as well, so you could look into those, too.
