Baby led weaning ?

Question

I’ve tried looking it up but I’m not sure how to do it. Or when to. My son will be 6 months old on the 15th... he has two bottom teeth. He’s tried a few different purées and I’ve mashed up a banana for him. Can I just start to introduce things and when? Him not really having teeth worries me. And does he have to reach certain milestones before I start it? He hasn’t rolled but gets so close. And can’t quite sit up without some help

I agree with the other comment on joining the Facebook group! It has so much information you can read to help you get started, it shows you the way to cut the food, and prepares you for gagging. Not going to lie it’s scary watching your child gag but they work it out themselves.

There are a few good fb groups if you search Baby Led Weaning. I know I had to sift thru some because they were just too many “perfect” moms. I finally found two good ones. 
I don’t remember which they were because I left them when my oldest was finished with it.

If they sit up well in their high chair and show interest in food while you’re eating those are good signs they could be ready to start baby led weaning soon! Teeth are not required because you’d only be giving things that are soft enough to squish between your fingers (or their gums!) 
My LO was 6 months yesterday, and we’ve been giving her purées/cereals for about 3 weeks now. I let her try something new once every 3 days (that’s kind of conservative/old school but I don’t see the point in rushing). 
She’s doing great with the purées for now so I’m planning to wait another week or two before introducing finger foods (BLW). My doctor suggested starting with whole wheat toast, banana and/or avocado cut into little strips. Those are just some classic starters but there are loads of YouTube videos about BLW!
