Maternity leave

I’m going on maternity leave at 34 weeks & I plan on being off for 4 months. What did you guys do for income? Did you rely on your spouse or did you apply for EI? If you applied for EI, did you go for it right when you got on maternity leave or a few weeks after?

I don’t want to be broke & rely on my spouse lol. Maybe I should put away some money for the next few months. My leave starts July 5th
