Anxiety over choking on Birthday Smash Cake
My little guy turns one soon and we are having a small outdoor party. I've been excited about the idea of a smash cake for baby (now toddler I guess 😭) to explore, play with and eat some of. My little guy tends to shove a bunch of food in his mouth and will sometimes gag and actually choked once for a few seconds but cleared it as I was grabbing him to do back blows so I'm not sure if he actually was choking but it freaked me out. I now just put a few pieces on his plate of things that he tends to shove quickly (like toast). I've never given him any type of whole pieces of bread for this reason, he's never had a muffin or anything. All that to say, I'm worried he might choke on his smash cake. I've considered just not doing it but also don't want to let my anxiety stop him from experiencing things. Anyone else have similar situations? How did your little ones do with a smash cake if you did one? Mostly explore or shove a bunch in their mouth? I know this is such a stupid first world problem but just figured I'd ask. Thanks!
