Tinder date has cold sores

I met a guy on Tinder we exchanged numbers and eventually STD results. The conversation was great he sent me his results and he tested negative in everything but had a high of 54% on HSV-2. I asked him about it and he said it’s common and he gets cold sores, that I probably even have it. But I actually never have and never tested positive for that. So I didn’t end up hooking up with him and I kind of feel bad because I liked our conversations and didn’t want to discriminate on him because of his results.

I’ve heard that it’s common but I’m scared to hook up with him. Should I be? Does anyone have an experience with a partner with cold sores Advice?!?!
