Needing advice on sending my son back to day care

So.. my son was attending day care all 2019 at 1 years old. He did fine back then. He stopped attending back in April 2020 due to COVID!

Fast forward to now. I decided to send him and his little brother to day care once again. Same place, same person. (In home day care)

But today something was different.

My son was so frantic today when I dropped him off. It wasn’t his regular cry either. It was like a scared cry. Today was his third day attending. He was dreading it. He didn’t want to go. And when I walked him in, he didn’t want to let go of me and started crying at this point.

I hugged him, let him know it was okay.

As soon as I let go, he started bawling.

Is this because he is not used to the day care center? Or being around other kids since it has been quite a while of us just being home?

I’m so heartbroken. Did I do the right thing leaving him there? Is it just that he needs time to adjust? Please mamas,

Let a girl know! Because I honestly don’t know what I should do! I already feel like a terrible mother.
