Should I stop texting him?

A really good friend from middle school texted me earlier today! And he called me “shorty” 2 times in 2 different messages. My boyfriend saw it cause I wasn’t hiding it at all and he kind of got upset that my friend was calling me shorty. I told him to be honest and to tell me if he was jealous and I would stop texting him right there but he told me he honestly wasn’t jealous and that I should check him for being disrespectful. It honestly wasn’t disrespectful at all to me that he called me that. He didn’t say it in a flirtatious way either. What should I do? Also I asked my bf what he wanted me to do and he said he didn’t care what I did and that he didn’t want to let anyone call me shorty.
