Absent father trying to be present now
My daughter is turning 4 tomorrow and I got a text from her biological father saying that he want to call and talk to her tomorrow. He stepped out on us when I was pregnant with her. He cheated on me with multiple women while I was pregnant. He was a terrible alcoholic, got drunk and had a hit and run, ended up in jail. I moved out of his house when my daughter was 3 months old. He hasn’t seen her or spoken to her since her first birthday. For the first 2 years of her life I begged him to be a father and begged him to come around and he refused. Now he wants to pop up and call her tomorrow on her 4th birthday. She doesn’t even know who he is. She calls her step dad (my husband) “dad”... he has stepped up and helped me raise her since she was a year old. All she knows is him... so how I’m I supposed to explain to her that her biological father wants to talk to her on the phone tomorrow?? I’m trying to do what’s right and fair, but I don’t want to flip her world upside down 😢 what is the right and mature way to handle this?? I really just want to cry. My husband says to be civil and nice to him, but I’m worried that this is going to cause so much trouble. I have so much anxiety over this... I just want to do what’s right for my daughter though.
