Just friends but he buys all my stuff???

So a few weeks ago I made a post some of you might remember where I asked what does it mean when a guy I’m talking too (he’s my ex though but we are just friends and we dated forever ago) asks me to go on a walk with him, and then cancels last minute.

You guys suggested I move on so I stopped talking to him after that after thinking on it, even as just a friend that’s still rude! Well he messages me back and says he wants to keep talking, I do just because I’m bored and don’t have many close friends anyway. Then he asks me today if I want to go bowling with him and his friends, but he wants to buy my lunch while we are there are he said he would cover my entry fee.

This sounds still just a friends thing? Why is he buying my stuff? Maybe he’s just being a nice friend? I guess he was more comfortable in a group setting? I’m so confused as to what’s happening lol
