Co-parenting with newborn

Hello I am currently 8 months pregnant and need advice. How do you co-parent with a newborn? I’m trying my best to avoid court and father has already talked about getting joint custody because we aren’t together and I feel it’s unecessary and will add more drama in my life. I’m trying to be as cordial as I can I tried to come up with a schedule he works allot so and days if the schedule doesn’t work out he will take me to court for joint custody. I live in Michigan btw first child and I don’t want to lose her because of a difficult ex.
