Spontaneous water rupture at 35weeks

Alexyz • A smile a day, keeps a heart at bay 💞

On May 17, I felt off. All day. At 7am I got a large contraction that made me start having watery discharge. Thought nothing of it since a few days prior I went to the OB ER and was told watery discharge was normal. I couldn’t shake this feeling though. My little one was moving so much more than he normally did, I was in a fog the whole day that I felt I couldn’t get out of. At 9pm I get another big contraction and more liquid discharge comes out so I go to the bathroom to clean myself up (thinking I peed myself since it wasn’t a lot.) I hear a “plop” in the toilet and see my mucus plug fell out. Well “oh shoot” I thought to myself that I would go into labor within the next week, since I lost my plug and was getting contractions. I go to lay in bed and this liquid just keeps coming out. I wait 30-45 minutes to see if it stops and at this point every time I cough, move, anything liquid just seeps out. I call the OB ER and see if I should get checked because I didn’t want to make another trip and be turned away for watery discharge. Around 10:30pm we come to the conclusion to get checked just in case (I live 10 minutes from the hospital). At 11:30pm May 17,2021 it was confirmed.. my water ruptured. I was rushed to sign paper work to start the inducement process to prevent infection. At 1:30am they started the cervical softener. By 6am they needed to remove it (it was a 12-hour softener) as my contractions were 1-2 minutes apart lasting 2-3 minutes. I was 4cm and 80% effaced at this point. We decided to wait on the Pitocin and see what my body was capable of. I got the epidural at 7am (best decision for myself ever.. I had a panic attack during the epidural and my nurse was just great with helping me mentally through it). By 10am I was 8cm 90% effaced. We started to use the peanut ball around this time to continue active labor. Labor stalled at 1pm at 8cm 100% effaced -1 station, baby’s heart rate started to become irregular so every 15 minutes we would flip me into a different position. At 2pm I was exhausted and took a nap. At 3pm I woke up to immense pressure. My epidural was not working in only my pubic area (I could feel every contraction right into my cervix only) I was at 9cm, 100% effaced and +1 station. By 3:15 I was fully dilated and in position. My NICU team was there, my nursing team and doctor were all there. We waited until I felt a contraction and pushed when I was ready. 30 minutes of pushing (and a game of tug-o-war with the doctor) my baby boy was born. At 3:42pm. 35weeks and 6days. Weighing a whooping 7lbs 4oz. 20 inches long. 32 inch head. It all happened so fast I could not wrap my brain around that I literally just pushed out a whole human in 30 minutes. And I barely tore, only a superficial tear. This is my first baby and had a 18-hour labor (starting at when my water ruptured at home around 9:45pm). We are doing so well and I am loving being Atticus Jae’s mom ♥️ I really am feeling so blessed and feeling like I can never let him go lol.

Baby started to get jaundice (common in preterm babies) so he has to use the blue lights for 12-hours but other than that we are doing very well. Ready to go home hopefully today (May 20,2021)!
