Does anyone care more about the proposal than the ring?

First off, regardless of a good proposal or nice ring, I’m very appreciate to be able to marry and spend my life with someone I love. That being said... my boyfriend and I have started talking about marriage. He knows I would kill him if he spent a lot on a ring and I don’t even wear jewelry and would be terrified of losing it. I’ve since been thinking of that convo and the more and more I think about it the less and less I want a ring. I still want something symbolic though and I definitely want a proposal. I love watching proposal videos and would obviously appreciate any kind of proposal but I would really like something that he put a lot of thought into. Did anyone else get anything but a ring?
