I could never do that

Jenny

Imagine you are telling someone what you do for a living. Or a life choice you’ve made. Their immediate response is - “Ugh, I could never do it”, even though you never suggested that they should, it just came up in the conversation. Now, your job/choice isn’t dangerous, odd or even controversial, just a road less traveled. How do you perceive their response?

A. Negative/ passive aggressive

B. They admire you and are implying that you must be special

After I get some responses, I might update this post with why this happens to me ALL. THE. TIME. Just want to see what people out there think.

Thanks 😊

Update:

Wow, thanks for the responses! The reason I didn’t want to share my personal “could never” was because I wanted to keep it general and not discuss any specific thing. I homeschool my kids. And people always tell me that they could never do it 😂 and I never know how to respond. Should I say, “Oh it’s not that bad”, or “Sure, you could!”? I always feel very awkward when it happens 🤷‍♀️
