Shitty Parents and Family

I really hate crappy parents and family. My son has a best friend who is raised by his grandpa, and parents are there at convenience. He found out today he gets to walk and graduate, last minute but pushed through and did it. His family basically scolds him saying well it was all last minute. My family, we've been on him to make sure he kicked it in gear, I text him literally weekly and ask when I see him. Today he sent the text saying, "I'm walking!!". We text back saying how proud we are of him. Which he didn't get from his own family. I severely hate that, but I'm glad he walked into our lives! He even asked my husband to cap him for their first ceremony, and sounds like his parents aren't coming. I really hate parents like this..
