Baby not swallowing food

As

My son is seven and a half months old. We started solids at 6 months. He loves food. He isn’t afraid to pick it up and put it in his mouth and give it a try. However, I’ve noticed that, unless it’s a purée, he swallows very little. He sucks on the food. Chews it up a little bit, but ultimately, he ends up spitting it out or it falls out. His ped said this is normal and not to worry yet. Does any one else’s little one do this? When did you notice baby started actually swallowing the solids?

Thanks.
