Homeschooling???

Question

If you home school or were homeschooled, how does it work??? I know my question is pretty basic lol. Any tips or advice for homeschooling. My son is on 2 months but im already thinking about it.

We started homeschooling our 4 year old last year (pre-K). It was a bit overwhelming to me to get started, so I just picked a curriculum and followed it. We’ll do the same this year with Kindergarten (and preschool with my 3 year old) and see how it goes. Once we get a bit more in-depth with multiple subjects, we may choose to remove or add in other curriculums too. What’s great is that you can totally cater to your child’s individual learning style! Not to mention, you can do your lessons anytime and anywhere. It’s important to learn the laws in your state and what they require. There are lots of resources available and ways to connect to other homeschool families, whether online or in person. So far, my kids love learning at home and we’ll continue to reevaluate as they grow. I’m not opposed to them going into a traditional school at some point, but I want them to have the ability to play and be outside as much as possible while they’re little!

I would recommend starting with Google and with Facebook groups in your area. Socialization was one of my main concerns when we decided to homeschool ours and there's many co op groups and activities we can partake in with other homeschooling families in my area, all coordinated through Facebook groups. These are also great places to find curriculum and other materials/resources as people often share what they find with others or sell their materials once they've finished with them.
You also want to research what type of homeschooling you want to do and what the laws are in your state. We tend to be more loose and trend more toward unschooling methods, but many parents use curriculum. I think you should really find what method fits well with your kids and family in general.

I was homeschooled and plan to homeschool any kids I have. This question has such a complicated answer! Each family handles homeschooling differently. 
First- check if homeschooling is even legal in your state. It’s not in California where I was raised (or it wasn’t back then), so my mom had to register as an exclusive private school.
My mom took more of an “unschooling” approach, rather than a school at home approach. We did learn from textbooks, but most of our education came from travel, museums, real life experiences, etc.
We attended charter schools for a while to have some classroom experience, but our favorite charter school dissolved so my mom decided to just teach us at home.
There are different education models that you can pull from- ie. Montessori, Waldorf, etc.
Definitely try to look into it as early as possible! Usually mom/teacher has just as much to learn as the kiddos do. There are probably local Facebook homeschool groups and some of them may even meet up weekly, ours did! It encouraged multiple age groups to play together and gave the mom’s a chance to talk. You could try joining one of those and reaching out?

To each their own but id definitely consider it on child to child. After seeing all these poor kids being stuck home without being in class with multiple kids to learn from you can see the kids its effecting negatively. Not saying home school kids arent social because in my old neighborhood once a montht the park was packed i asked one of the moms what was going on and it was the home schooled kids in the neighborhood getting together once a month to play but kids need wayyyy more than that

My husband was “unschooled” and he and his siblings loved it. In our state you have to register under an umbrella school for homeschoolers just to show that you have your child “enrolled” somewhere. I’d definitely look into local Facebook homeschooling groups for more info.

Why do you want to homeschool him? I was homeschooled and it was very bad, but I also had a traumatic childhood. Socializing would of been better for me.
