Are BMI’s reliable ?

So I’m 5’8 currently 212 pounds and I’m 25 weeks. I looked at my chart after my appointment and it said my BMI is  32.23 .. I looked it up and that’s classified as obese. I honestly don’t see where the weight is, and I don’t feel obese. My doctor hasn’t mentioned my weight, so I’m a little confused

BMI isn’t relevant at all during pregnancy (and not really very relevant other times either, my SO’s BMI puts him at obese even though he has almost no body fat-2%, just a solid wall of muscle 😂)

BMI is not relevant ever, especially not while pregnant. It doesn't account for the extra fluid and weight of the baby while pregnant, and doesnt account for body build or muscle mass normally.

I'm in the same boat with bmi and none of my doctors have talked about it. After I lost weight from morning sickness they told me every woman is different. You might gain or lose weight from your starting weight and none of it matters, as long as your baby is healthy and growing!

BMI’s are pointless but unfortunately my OB goes off of that for weight gain goals. Pre-pregnancy I was 5’3 and 151lbs. I wore a size 4 and occasionally a 6 based on the brand. Regardless of my size, I got classified as overweight and told to gain only 20-25lb instead of the regular 25-35.

Are BMI’s reliable ?
