How do credit cards work

Help me out here. I haven’t been taught how credit cards work

Im switching banks from Chase to Bank of America.

I don’t have a credit or debit card as of right now.

I was thinking that I could take out a debit & credit card at the same time, pay what I need to pay with credit card, and then I’ll pay it back with the debit card. Does that make sense? I need to build credit
