He’s here! Came on his due date!
I had my little fella this morning and thought I’d better write my birth story while its still fresh in my mind. I loved reading other people’s stories so I hope someone might like reading ours 😊
So I had a stretch and sweep at my hospital appointment on the 7th at 39 weeks and 6 days. The doctor said I was 1cm dilated and thinning out. I had thought the night before things were happening because I had six mild contractions in an hour but then they randomly stopped.
At 2.20am this morning I woke up to a mild contraction but it was stronger than the ones I had the night before so I started to time them. They were about 7 ish minutes apart so I got up and went to the living room to watch telly. I knew my husband would be up before 4am to go to work so I let him sleep till then.
My toddler woke up and came out too but lucky my mum was already staying with us and could keep him entertained. My contractions were mild still so we decided that we would have time for me to labour at home for a bit while my husband sorted things out at work.
I got in the shower and the hot water was really nice. Contractions were getting stronger and closer together like 5mins apart so I got out and texted hubby to hurry home. In hindsight we should have left an hour earlier because we live nearly an hour from the hospital.
Contractions in the car were getting quite bad and I was getting panicky. All I could think about was getting an epidural like I did with my first.
I was a mess by the time we got from car park to hospital and they grabbed me a wheelchair to get to birth suite. I asked for the epi straight away and the midwife said it might take a while because I needed fluids first and they needed to get blood work done. I was really scared of the thought of not getting an epi because I’d always planned getting another one and the contractions were getting so bad.
So she checked me and I was 4cm and completely thinned out. She went out of the room and I had a contraction and my water burst like a big water balloon and went everywhere apparently but I didn’t look. I knew he was close at this point and there was no way I was getting an epidural.
I told my husband to tell the midwife my water had broke and when she came back in I said I need to poop! She said no I don’t think so that will be your baby coming so she managed to get me back on the bed and I was in so much pain (sorry to keep saying that). I was heaving on the gas but she told me to stop using the gas because it was pushing time. So I went from 4cm to 10cm in half an hour!
My body pretty much took over pushing and he was out in six minutes! The pushing part was actually really relieving and it was so crazy to actually feel him come out of me which I didn’t feel with my first son because of the epidural. I had a couple of grazes and a small tear that didn’t require stitches.
He is doing so well and we have nearly decided a name but not certain yet lol. He is 7 pounds 6 ounces born at 7.26am on his due date this morning. I can’t wait for his brother to meet him!
