When to take away the pacifier?

My MIL always gives me 💩 for letting my son have one if he wants it which is usually just when he naps or is getting sleepy. Whenever she sees it she yanks it out and he starts to cry. He just turned 9 months so idk if he’s too old for it or if it’s still ok. I was planning on taking it away after his first birthday but now idk if I should do it now. Also any tips on how to do it?

That’s really rude of her to take it from your baby. I would tell her you are the mom and to stop undermining you it’s your decision… they say to start weaning around 1 so that it doesn’t damage their teeth.

Boyyyy I would have lost my mind if my MIL took my kids pacifier out like that. 
But I feel the same as you. I’ll take it away when he’s one and he only uses it when he’s getting sleepy and is going down for nap or bed. It usually falls out and he doesn’t need it again. 
It’s such a limited amount of time that like the other person said if it helps our sanity there is nothing wrong with babe soothing. It’s not the end of the world. I think you’re fine mama.

My aim is to try and take it away by the time he’s 1 (hopefully 😅) but similar to you, I only really give him it if he’s tired or he’s a bit fussy - do it when you’re ready

In the same situation. My daughter is actually 1, she was suppose to be a sept baby but decided to come 3 months early. I came to the conclusion after talking to several mom friends (I’m a FTM) that your sanity is something to take in consideration lol. If your baby only uses it for naps or bedtime there is no harm in letting them soothe to go to sleep. My girl never thinks about the paci during times she’s not in her crib. They’ll eventually not want it but if it keeps her happy and my sane in tact. She can have it lol

I’ll be really honest my 2 year old still uses it for bed. Only bed and naps. We will be taking it away soon but with this baby we tried to implement it the same way. It’s only for naps and bed and if we go out just in case to sooth. They are meant for those reasons. Do you boo and tell her it’s your child and you are doing it your way. ♥️

Aside from rude MIL…
With our first around 1 we started limiting it to bed/nap times and not having It just clipped on him all day. And it always fell out once he was asleep anyway. After a while of only having it at bed/nap ge went through a phase where he didn’t want it at all and started learning to sooth himself back to sleep with it. So we went off that and stopped offering it and within a week or so he was done with them. 
Now baby brother is here. Hoping for the same luck in a few months around when he turns 1 !

Girrrrl I would be so mad at her for yanking it out of my babies mouth!! I don’t care if he was 4 and had one!!
Personally I think as soon as they start getting teeth, ONLY because my nephew and also a few other kids we know had their pacis until they were 1 and 1 1/2 and their teeth are completely messed up because of them.... 
they are just baby teeth and will obviously eventually fall out, so it’s really just personal preference mama. 
But don’t let anybody make you feel inferior for whatever you choose!
