Does Acid Reflux/GERD Have A Cure/Medicine To Help It?

My 10 month old has apparently been having acid reflux since he’s was born. I told the doctor that he still spits up constantly, he’s always hungry, always cranky/fussy, unless he’s being held. He still basically acts like a newborn. And I have another one on the way coming in October. I’ve tried everything in the book that the doctor has told me to try from trying new formulas, feeding him less amounts, feeding him baby food and a little amount of formula afterwards, etc. I will give him just baby/solid food with no liquids and he will even spit that up a little bit. I told the doctor that something seems wrong with him. And she just keeps saying it’s acid reflux. She isn’t concerned about his weight but I am. He still looks like a 4-5 month old to me. He’s 17 pounds. Petite. And I’m worried about him. I got that GI X-ray done today of him where he drinks a drink and they see how it does down. They said everything looks normal. But honestly for those of you who’ve dealt with this, what else can I do or what medicine/supplement should I try? I’m tired and am crying out for help at this point.
Mind you he does have an umbilical hernia but it goes in and out.

Why did the dr diagnose but not treat ? When my son was put on acid reflux meds he was a brand new baby a couple weeks later. Sometimes unfortunately you have to be your own advocate. Call the dr and demand meds

My daighter was also put on meds and it went away by 6 months. She is 17 months now and is experiencing a flare up which the doctor says we will need to watch. I would get another opinion if you haven't yet

Ugh GERD is so hard in babies 😕 A lot of docs are more hesitant/resistant to giving babies meds for this these days unless it’s effecting their growth. They’re always weighing risks vs benefits. If baby is growing well, it’s ROUGH on parents and some pain for baby. That’s no fun. But most kids grow out of it as they age, usually by 1 or 1 1/2 and things are fine from there.
What they’re finding with medication (which had become super prominent for many years) is that it make the problem permanent and, therefore, make the kid require lifelong meds to manage. Their bodies adapt to having the meds because they’ve never been without them, so those bodies don’t learn to self regulate like they normally would and a lot of kids continue to have problems as they get older when they try to come off the meds. Some kids NEVER come off those meds. And the meds do have other side effects, especially with prolonged use. So in-the-know peds have become more careful with who they prescribe to.
Have you tried going dairy free for baby? My kids had AWFUL GERD. I was told it wouldn’t make a big difference by the time we wondered about dairy with my first, so we just dealt with it. It improved some around 9 months, but wasn’t completely better til a little after a year. When my daughter had the same issue, we tried a couple other things and then I cut dairy from my diet when she was about 4 weeks old and those tricks weren’t helping. It was amazing! A couple days made a huge difference and by two weeks, she was completely normal, almost no spitting up at all unless I accidentally ingested some dairy. It was wonderful and totally worth it! If baby is breastfed, you could cut dairy or you can switch to a non-dairy formula and make sure you donmt offer any solids that have dairy (check labels, you’d be amazed at what has dairy 🙄).  Give it a week or two and if you donmt see an improvement you can switch back and maybe talk about meds. Cow’s Milk Prptein Allergy (CMPA) is usually what causes it, not lactose intolerance (which is the sugar in dairy that gives people problems) and most kids grow out of it by 18 mo, some up to 3 years, but it’s very rarely permanent. Both mine did and they eat dairy fine now. Hope you find something to help! People don’t understand how tough that can be on a mama!
