Should parents pay for their child's college tuition?
So I saw a Judge Judy case where this aunt made a loan to her brother, so her niece (18 y.o) would be able to attend her first year of college. He was not able to co-sign with her for student loans because of poor credit so his sister ofc made a loan to him because she wanted her niece to go to college. Well when it came time to pay the loan back he swore the loan was between his daughter and her and had nothing to do with him. Judge Judy went in on him lol & mentioned how he should be paying for her schooling anyways and ordered for him to pay her back the money. Well the comment section of this video were filled with people saying how he doesn't have to pay for her college tuition and since she's 18 she needs to get a job and pay for her own education.
I was literally shocked at how many people thought parents aren't obligated to pay for their child's education, especially their undergraduate education.
I will be supporting my kid until he has a job and is able to be out in the world with no help at all. Now I don't plan to pay for all extra schooling like going back for a master's or doctoral degree, etc. But ik how hard it can be to find a career in your field right after graduating. So until he does, I'll gladly support him. But to not even pay for or assist in his first four years? My parents would never do that to me and I don't plan on doing it to my son. Idk why some parents think parenting ends once the child turns 18 but the comments were so sickening
