I hate hate hate when my mother in law refers to my daughter as “her baby” “her princess”. I know she doesn’t mean any harm but I just hate it. Anyone else?

Omg SAMEEE. my skin itches every time I hear “how’s my baby “ “where’s my princess”. It doesn’t help that she’s incredibly possessive over my baby!! She even told me that I need to drop off my baby EVERY week for a couple hours . I said no, we’d be more than happy to visit but she was insisting on me not being there when 1) in a first time mom currently on maternity leave so I I want to spend as much time with LO 2) I don’t like leaving my baby at all just yet 3) it’s freaking weird that you want alone time with my newborn

No it wouldn't bug me if any of my family members said it because I'm close with all of them and am glad that they love my child that much. Your child will always be yours.

I feel like this is more of a reflection of how you feel about your MIL. If my MIL did that I wouldn’t care at all, but also my MIL is like a second mother to me...

My mil lives across the world. My mom lives close though. It doesn’t bother me when she says “that’s my girl” when she does something good. It’s kind of a figure of speech. But I drives me crazy when someone will comment on something about my daughter or nieces and she says they get that from her, or my dad, or their parents. NO! She gets some things from ME! I’m the one that made her with my husband. And most of the time she gets those things from my husbands side too, but they are totally ignored. No she doesn’t get blue eyes from my dad, her other grandfather has blue eyes too. No she doesn’t get her hair from you, it’s much closer to mine than yours. Drives me nuts, and my husband especially.

It bugs me a lot because when my son starts fussing in my arms, she’ll come grab him. Everyone in the room says “aww he loves his grandma so much!” She always says “Grandma’s coming to rescue you!” Shell randomly show up to our apartment to see him. Mind you that we are at her house almost everyday. Not my choice. I do love her, but it really irks me.

We were thinking of a name for our second daughter i cant remember what now but i googled nicknames for rhat name and one was mimi and thats what my first boen calls my mother in law and im like nope cant use that name anymore because i couldnt have anyone say they have the same name without me commiting murder lol
