If Building a house Would you be willing to go through the Entire house build without knowing how much you’ve spend on one single thing, because the contractor is your friend?!

We are building a home, we are half way through and haven’t seen one receipt or total for ANYTHING. The contractor is my husbands friend so hes charging us less than normal for his contractor fee, but we have no idea of any amounts right now that we’ve talked paid off the stuff that is done. I told my husband to ask him where we are at money wise (I said either ask him how much we’ve spent so far or ask him how much we have left to pay for). The contractor got mad when we asked and told us we could go find someone else who will charge us 20%.

Am I crazy for wanting to know what we’re spending on stuff and if we’re staying on budget?!

My husband is mad at me now for wanting to know because now I’ve made his Buddy mad. He says I can’t just let it go and trust that we’re in budget, that I have to push the issue and in turn make everyone mad.

I thought when people build a home that they know actual amounts that they are spending (such as for concrete, framers, cabinet guy, etc…) and now he’s making me feel crazy for wanting to know.
