So my family is having an open discussion about when it’s appropriate to call out of work and when.

to keep it brief, the current situation is this, my family and I work together. Both our parents have been rushed into emergency rooms while we’re on shift. Both parents needed to get emergency surgeries the next day. (A) doesn’t leave work or call out the next day because they feel theres nothing they can do but wait at the hospital. Between the time it takes for the surgery and the hospital to allow visitors after surgery is about 5-8 hours of a wait. (B) decides it’s best they leave same day and call out at midnight for the next day to wait at the hospital.

Both parents weren’t at threat of dying or having complications and both parents remained stable through transfusions and surgeries.

The debate; is it ok to call out of work for something like this? Or is it unprofessional
