Would you not use your favorite baby name because it’s very popular?

If you had a name you always wanted to name your baby but now it’s very popular would you still use it?

Somebody is always going to say “ oh My cousins friends uncles daughter has that name.” 🙄 so name your kids what you want. 😂

Two of our favorite names were Ava and Olivia. The popularity definitely made me not want to use them. I’m a teacher and have dealt with too many instances where students had to go by first name last initial because there were more than one in a class. We will likely use one of those names as a middle name instead with a less common first name.

It’s a personal rule for me. I won’t give my child at top 50 name. My name is I believe #2 for the year I was born and I found it so irritating. There were always at least 2 other girls with my name in every single class I had in grade school. We have already eliminated many names because they are too popular. That being said, if a name being popular isn’t a deal breaker for you then use whatever name you like.

Yupp. I love the name Charlie for a boy, but being that it has become such a popular unisex name, I probably will steer away from it. I don't want him to be 1 of 10 Charlie's in his class & then have to go by Charlie C or some bullsh** like that. 
Growing up my best friend Kate hated that her name was so common. & she especially hated that she had to go by an initial. We also had a Michael who was fed up with using Michael C, so he went by MAC (his full initials).
If your heart is set on a particular name, then go for it, but keep in mind that it could also be annoying for your child to have such a common name down the line.

I voted to use a different name because I like uniqueness, so I try to stay out of the top 100… but if it’s your favorite name then maybe it doesn’t actually bother you that much and you should go for it. Just be prepared for all the other kids you meet with that name and comments about “so & so” with the same name.

Emily had a really popular phase after I was born, but actually didn't meet another Emily till collage, I now have 3 other Emily friends 😅 but I'm. Still the only Emily in my office at work 
Sometimes it's a bit like, Greg's Emily. Others we'r Emily, M & Emi, one we renamed to Barbara 😂🤣

Unless it was a family member or person you were close to or knew, it shouldn’t effect your decision. I sure didn’t name my kids based on the lowest death rate name for children. It’s horrible something happened to that poor baby, but it does NOT mean hit will happen to yours. If you love the name, keep it, and think of it as honoring him if it helps.

Yep. Ever since I was little I’ve always loved the name Lillian, we had an old neighbor lady with the name.
First born was a girl so she’s now a Lillian.
