How did you know you were done?

My husband and I are having our first baby together it’s a boy! I have a girl from a previous marriage who my husband treats like his own. We keep going back if we’re ok with just having too kids or want one more after he’s born. How did you know that your family was complete? We keep going back and forth on if we want another. 
Everyone I know has said they knew the number of kids they wanted prior to having kids. I originally only wanted two kids a boy and a girl would make my ideal family then when I left my daughters father I kind of felt that maybe 2 more close in age would be nice. I’m so indecisive  😅

For me I always wanted 2 to 3 kiddos. Then hit a bunch of issues (one being losing my right ovary in 2011 to internal bleeding. It blew apart and they kinda pieced it back together. Its completely non-functioning.) 5 yrs 1 month to our first, I miscarried. 2 yrs 1 month to our second, she's 3. 1 yr 8 months to our third, i had a missed miscarriage discovered at our first ultrasound. 1 yr 2 weeks to the date to our fourth, I'm 29 wks with our son currently. Given our struggles and our losses we're about 90% sure Dennis will be our last. We just can't handle another loss again. It's weird and difficult to say we're done and to actually be done. So we've been pretty conflicted about it. But we're also in our early 30s now and dont want to keep putting my body through all this. Especially my husband. We had a very very hard talk before our first scan with Denny. A talk I wish no couple ever had to have. So. Very likely done after Denny. But we have 2 more kids than they ever told me I would have. So. I'm grateful for that much. Just don't want to keep pushing it.

Going into it with my ex, I knew I wanted 3. I grew up as one of 3 (in the house, Dad had two from a previous marriage), and it seemed like a good number. Ex and I went back and forth with how many we wanted. After my third, I was OK with the family. If we ended there, I would’ve been sad, but it wouldn’t devastate me. Then, we got pregnant with our fourth. After him, I knew that I was done. Our marriage was breaking down, but I felt complete with my four kids (even without my ex). 
Now, I KNOW it was the right choice. I don’t think I could’ve handled any more kids. 
Just listen to your body and your heart. If you’re still longing after this one is born, try for another. If you feel content, you could be done. Also, discuss everything with your partner. They need to be a part of the discussion.

I’ve read somewhere before that if you feel like you’re missing someone at the dinner table, you’ll know you want more! TTC#2 but not sure if that’ll be the last or if we’ll want one more. We’ll see when the time comes :)

I wish I knew the answer to this question. I’ve had 4 babies, youngest being 2 months and I lost a set of twins. I don’t feel done but may be done due to my vision getting a lot worse after my last pregnancy..
