Is this acceptable?

Hi! 
My family consists of 4. My husband, teenager, 9 year old, and myself. We are all vaccinated, besides my 9 year old. My husband tested positive for covid, on Thursday, then the rest of us got tested and we're all negative. My husband is quarantined in a separate room and I just put him a tray of food outside the room, he wears a mask and opens the door to get it when I'm gone. Anyway I called my 9 year old's school to inform them about my husband being positive for covid, that I'll keep my child home for 10 days and that I will get in touch with the teacher to work out the lessons/ homework for the time. The school said that they will not excuse the absents without a positive covid test for the student himself, and will not take my husband having covid and being in the same household into consideration. I am absolutely shocked! I will not be sending my child to school of course, and risk other kids getting sick but how can they say this? I am just so confused. Let me know what you think/ would do in this situation please? Even though my child is negative for covid, but he is living in a home with a covid positive person, so why aren't they worried about there students and staff? I just don't understand? Let me know if I'm missing something here. Thanks!
Edit: How do I fight this? Now I'm just so worried of sending my child to school at all, because if they are doing this with us then they will be doing this with everyone and that puts my child/other children at risk of getting covid. They said that they can't excuse absents, unless it's the student themselves test Positive for covid. I asked to talk to the principal but he didn't get back to me so I'm waiting until Monday. But it's scary to think that it's ok with them risking our children's health/lives. Also was told that the school nurse said, children are at low risk for Covid. Ok? But there is still a risk. I couldn't sleep all night thinking of this and my blood is boiling. It's not like I want my child missing school and missing work myself but that's the safe and responsible thing to do. My child missed school in the past for much less, and it wasn't an issue so I don't know what's the issue now when literally health/lives will be at risk.

I'd ask for a written email from someone in administration in the school that they are choosing not to excuse an absence for your students (specifically named in the email) when they are living in a home with an actively positive covid case.
Then at the end of the school year you'll have a written foot to stand on and a name to point a finger at.

This is insane. I thought for sure you’d be complaining about how the school WON’T let him come in because he’s living in a household with a positive covid diagnosis, but wow that took a turn. I’d absolutely fight them on this… just because your husband is in another room and you’re taking precautions doesn’t mean you’re 100% safe. Sorry you’re going through this!

First of all, THANK YOU! For not going ahead and sending him to school to put others at risk. I wish everyone thought that way. 
I would fight it 100%. Get written documentation, keep notes of when you speak to whom, alerted them, etc. And if you can't get answers within the school, go through the chain of command. Principal, superintendent, school district/school board. 
The school nurse shouldn't be trying to make decisions for other people's children. If my child went to school with yours, I'd be hopeful they were doing any and everything to protect my child.

I don’t give a flying fuck if they “excuse” my sons absences from school. It’s not a job, they can’t fire him. I’ll be pulling him out as much as I see fit ESPECIALLY when someone in the house is sick with an illness that kills people.

Wow this is so backwards! Our school system thanked me anytime we kept the kids home because there was a covid exposure for one and we kept them both home. My kids are 15 & 11 and in different schools so anytime they sent one home to due possible exposure in school we kept both home. This happened 4 different times last year! I would fight big time and bring out the big guns if needed, you are being responsible and following the cdc recommendations and the school is trying to enforce unsafe rules!!

I would search the contact information for the school board or superintendent and see if there is anything they can do about it. I thought the schools where I live were ignorant but I think yours takes the cake.

I hear ya! Insane! I actually work at a school and 3 people tested positive from one room! A teacher and two aides. All of them are on quarantine now but get this— one of the teaching aides is a one on one! Meaning she works one on one with a student all day long. The student who receives the one on one help is still at school! Never made to take a Covid test 🤦🏻‍♀️. Covid has got to be running rampant through that class and our school. I’m terrified. I’m vaccinated but vaccinated people are getting it left and right. 😪
