Idk how to communicate with him

My psychology professor said we are gonna have a partner assignment in September but he's pairing us up now so we can get to know our partner. I got paired with a high school kid named Kevin. He's nonverbal autistic and only knows sign language which i don't... Like how am I supposed to communicate with him?

Edit: I did try to talk to my Professor about it and he said someone has to be paired with him and I can find someone willing to switch that's fine. So far no one is willing to switch with me. I guess i never thought of if he could write. I'm assuming so if he's in college.
