Irritable uterus

Jan

Went in to L&D yesterday for decreased fetal movement. Of course, once I got there, he started moving. They were monitoring him and brought me ice water and juice. They checked me (I’m 35w) and my cervix was closed. The wanted to do a BPP to see how baby was doing. They monitored me for about 70 minutes, I really had to pee as I had already had 32 oz of water before coming in and about half of the water they gave me since being there (16 oz). The ultrasound tech unhooked me from everything, let me pee then did the ultrasound. She left me unhooked and the doctor came in right after and told me they were going to discharge me since everything looked good. Well then the nurse came in and told me they didn’t have enough data for a baseline on baby’s HR since it was high when I first arrived and wanted to put me back on the monitor. That’s when the contractions started. They told me I have an irritable uterus which is causing contractions and may cause pre-term labor. At this point I had finished the water they gave me (32 oz) and they told me they wanted to give me terbutaline, then they said never mind because my heart rate was elevated and it will make my heart rate go up more. Then they suggested procardia, but after talking with my midwife I declined and wanted to try a few things at home first. They told me it was probably because I was dehydrated, but I had already had 64oz before 12pm that day and I drink 64+ oz of fluid a day. As soon as I got home, the contractions stopped. Have you guys ever been told you have an irritable uterus? Did it cause preterm labor? I feel like it was stress induced for me, as it didn’t start until 2.5 hours into the visit.
