Do you read to your toddler?

Do you read to your young toddler? My husband tries to read to our 13 month old son after his bath every night but he won’t sit still 🤦🏻‍♀️. Any mamas have have tips?

Its okay if the toddler is move around. They are actually listening. Give them toys to interact with and read to them. Some kids have too much energy, my son always did.

I started reading to my daughter immediately!  I wanted her to love books so i always pushed it. She gets a book from me then dad every night before bed, shes five next week. If they dont sit still dont stop reading!  Keep going there listening. Or ask him to turn the pages for you. Or pick books that are like two sentences a page and quickly read the page then say wow this page is so colorful whats your favorite color on the page or i see a ladybug on this page can u spot it?  Make it alittle more interactive. And voices! My daughter lovessss the voices!!! Theres one book i literally cant read before bed because the first time i read it i did it so over the top that its now her favourite and she gets so worked up expecting those crazy funny voices and sound effects lol

We have read to our kids since birth. We just adjust the books we read and how we read them to match attention span. Find a book series they like and make sure to use funny voices and lots of influx. Pick short books when they are not as interested and sneak in a longer book when you can. Have them pick out a book...doesn't matter if they have no idea what it is they like the independence and will usually read it happier since it was their choice. Just some stuff that worked for us. My 2.5 yr old now has me read like 40 books per day to her and has always gotten at least 1 a day. Can say I truly hate the Thomas and Friends books right now...all day everyday lol.

I wish I had advice, but I do have a child who struggles with books. My boy has an issue with eating paper 🤦‍♀️ we tried and tried with him, but he TEARS his books up. He screams and cries when we don't let him eat the damn books! Haha 
His nutrition is fine, we've had him tested and he takes multivitamins. He is just quirky like his mama. I was the same way as a toddler. My mom had to take away books and even toilet paper!! 🤭
 She would just sing to me and tell me stories instead 😂
I use my phone and tell him stories and show him pictures as well as singing like my mom did for me. We'll reintroduce books as soon as we can make him understand why he can't eat his books. He's not even 2 yet 🤷‍♀️

My son loves story time and can spend a long time just sitting and reading with with me or by himself. I read to get his attention sometimes. If I start reading he will come over automatically. But he prefers me reading over his dad. He will take the book from his dads hands and give it to me. When I read to him I’m very animated, I make sounds and I interact with the book. I really push it as much as I can. Plus I know what books my son likes as far as imagery and how much text he’s comfortable with. Look for books that relate to toys or animals he might be interested in. For example my son loves cars and monkeys. He also loves books with real pictures and real kids. Find out what interests your child and make it fun for him. Also, don’t pressure him. You want the experience to be fun and something he’s going to enjoy his whole life, not be a chore that he dreads.

We accept her moving around, mostly because I can't sit still either 😂

I have read to my kids every night since they were born. They are 4.5, almost 3, and 14 months. They listen to you even if it doesn't appear they are. 
My 14 month old crawls around the room or plays with a stuffed animal while I read. 
My 3 y/o has autism and never sits still, like literally never- not even when eating or falling asleep. He runs laps around the room while I read. But I KNOW he listens to me. He is almost nonverbal though he is beginning to repeat words here and there now. I know he listens because occasionally some phrase I read will catch his ear and he will repeat it while he runs his laps (most recently being "go, go, go" and "T-O!"
My 4.5 y/o only sits beside me if it is a brand new book. Usually he is in the floor with the baby or running with my 3 y/o. But I know he listens too because he will react to what I'm reading, whether it is laughing about a funny part or asking a question about something I just read.

I have always read to my daughter, she brings me books constantly and sits in my lap so I can read them. Most of the time she just wants to flip the pages really fast so I read as fast as I can 😂 the ones she sit still for are her bed time books when I rock her or the ones with fun actions and giggles (her favourite is I Love You Through and Through)

My mom would sometimes make up stories for the pictures if the words were taking too long, some kids books really get wordy, she also used silly voices 😊 I think they’re picking up more than you think even if they don’t hold still yet

I’ve been reading to my son since he was a newborn…sometimes he sits still sometimes he doesn’t, he’s listening though!
