Is it weird?

Is it weird that my two year old daughter’s daycare teacher calls her baby and says “I love you”? It might not be, but I kind of feel weird when she says it. Like she’ll say “come get your water, baby” or “I love you, bye bye” is it just me? Or is it weird? She’s my baby!! Lol.

I don’t see it as weird. Sometimes I say “what’s up babe” or “what’s up my love” to my kindergarten students. They are loved by me, they are my babies at school, and I just express that love to them. Children deserve to feel the love from the adults in their life, and they deserve to hear that love out loud.

If you're a kid person, and you work with kids on a daily basis, its really hard NOT to do/say things like that. It would be weird if it were a stranger, but these people develop a relationship with the kids they care for. I would be happy to know my child was with a warm, loving person when I can't be there. 
Its way better than the awful daycares where the kids get ignored all day

I would prefer this over a teacher who doesn’t show them any compassion. It sounds like she just wants them to know they’re loved and cared for. Some kids never hear it.

It sounds like she just really cares about the kids she cares for.  I had special nicknames for the kiddos I nannied for and told them I loved them because I did 🤷‍♀️

I don’t think it’s weird as long as she wasn’t just saying that stuff to only my child. Sounds like she’s a loving daycare employee that genuinely enjoys her job.

So I work at daycare and I call the kids baby.  Like when they are upset I'll say it's ok baby, or like comfort or use sweet heart but I don't say I love you.  I give them other complements.

I would hope the person who spends so much time with my kiddo would show them love when I can’t be with them. Imagine a little one being in a stuffy, professional environment all day. This isn’t a Fortune 500 company with employees. This is a daycare where children go to be cared for in the absence of their parent.

I worked at a daycare and I’d say calling them baby is a little weird! But also I’ve seen horrible things and I’d be happy the teacher is bonding with my child and showing affection.

I mean... she watches your kid all day everyday, its not that weird that she has a love for your child. I understand the jealously of someone else calling you child baby and saying I love you, but I think it's natural for her teacher to have a good bond with her. :)

I work in a before and after school program and before that I worked at a private daycare. While I was working at the private daycare you do end up calling them by nicknames given I didn’t say babe or baby but I would call them kiddo or something fitting. I never told the kids I loved them I thought it was over stepping, but you do grow to love those kids and want nothing bad to happen to them since you are watching them most days. But giving nicknames is not uncommon my boss at the before and after school program calls those kids babe. It’s just a nickname. But in those settings you are called mom a lot or atleast in the private daycare I was and then I would tell them oh I’m not mommy and they would smile and laugh but honestly nicknames are a way of bonding with the kids. And like another comment said you give compliments I would do that a lot with the kids give them compliments. Or if a kid would say them love me I just say ohh thank you that’s sweet of you.
