Should I speak to her or let her dad speak to her

So I'm making a poll for some advice. Another post about my boyfriend. 4 kids from 4 different women and custody of them all. His daughter Claire had friends over from her 7th grade volleyball team. One thing I never mentioned because it's not important is Claire is biracial. The only biracial sibling. Her mom is black, my boyfriend is white. I heard her friends talking about her hair. My boyfriend uses different hair products for Claire's hair vs Maddie and Ambers. So my boyfriend french braids his girls hair into please pig tails everyday for school. I heard one of Claire's friend asked why he does that and she said "He likes us to match ig" and her friend said "But you don't. The end of your sisters braids are straight. Your hair curls". Then they told her "It's fine though. We like you like this then pretending to be black". She said she was black. Half black, then her friends just laughed. After they left she seemed sad... Me and Claire have started forming a bond so I thought I could talk to her but maybe it's best to tell her dad and have him do it.
