Aunt is mad at me

Hey ladies, I need some input here, my aunt is super pissed at me for suggesting she put her dog down.

Some background info: The dog is 18 years old, he’s covered in lumps and tumours, he’s blind, deaf, he has trouble eating, and this morning he woke up not able to use his back legs (dragging them). She told me about this new development and I gently suggested that maybe putting him down might be the most humane thing to do. She flipped out. She called me insensitive and told me she was going to just “give up” on her dog that easily. Now she won’t speak to me even though I genuinely apologized for making her feel bad. Am I the asshole here?
