Feeling disappointed 😢

Abby

Boyfriend is losing his job in December which means putting off our plans of getting engaged this fall. He found this out 2 weeks ago and we just talked about this last night. I have pms pretty badly right now so I couldn’t help but get emotional about it, we’ve been dating for almost 5 years (since we were 17) and I want to be his wife so badly. Not only that but my parents, his parents, siblings, friends, coworkers, all ask when we are going to get engaged and married. It’s getting really old, but this is inevitably what we both want in the future. In my dreams I imagined him proposing on our 5 year anniversary (in about 2 weeks). I feel like I’m grieving how I imagined this would turn out. Don’t ever get your hopes up😢😢 My patience is definitely wearing thin even though this is a completely valid reason to not get engaged yet… He has told me that he wants to provide for me and doesn’t want people to hurt me with words about him. He feels like if for some reason he ends up unemployed for a period of time then people will really start to question my decision of dating him. He feels like he needs the month of December off from the job he has hated. To enjoy the holidays and start a new job in the new year. He definitely could do this, we aren’t living together, he has like $40 k saved, we’re both living with our parents. I know he has every intent to find another job but the uncertainty just kills me!! He tells me that he is looking and trying to find a job, but I think he is holding out for when the job ends so he can just take a couple of weeks off. I’m being so selfish and I don’t like it... I’m trying so hard to be patient with him and I’m trying to just encourage him while he looks for jobs.
