or perhaps your dad or sibling is one?
Just curious what their schedule is like? Is it true they work like 48 hours straight than off like 10 days or something like that? I know each state is probably different. I live in California

I'm in Chicago. Last time I dated a firefighter was 2 or 3 days on then 2 or 3 days off as long as there were no city emergencies.  Most of them have side jobs so they may be off from firefighting but they're picking up other work.

I have a family member who is a firefighter. He definitely works multiple days ALWAYS on and frequently needs to sleep at the station. It’s a really intense schedule. Not usually 10 days off in a row though.

My ex was a fire fighter and he worked 4 on 3 off so he would be at the fire house for 4 straight days then home 3 days (barring things like forest fire or huge disaster then he was called in) but he lived at the station those 4 days.

It’s pretty much all volunteer fire companies in my area (Western PA). My husbands fire co doesn’t do shifts.

It is definitely different during fire season here in California. Some of them are gone weeks at a time from home with the fires.
