IUI #2 - missed ovulation?

😶‍

I'm trying to get my head round the timing of my iui this cycle and the likelihood of it being a complete and utter waste of time ☹

So I was told to trigger at 10.30pm on Monday 11/1 and the iui was scheduled for Wednesday 11/3 at 1pm, however I had a blazing positive opk at midday the same day and was obviously about to ovulate on my own anyway. I even had right sided pain before I even got a chance to take the trigger shot. I had a 21mm follicle on the right side.

Am I right in saying that once you ovulate there a 12-24 hour window to fertilise the egg? I'm definitely feeling that the iui was way too late?

Even if I didn't ovulate on my own earlier than anticipated there was a 38, almost 39 hour gap between the trigger and the iui, to me that seems too long?

I tried to get some reassurance at the clinic before we did the iui but I went home unconvinced and feeling like we had blown it.

Am I missing something? Is it hopeless??
